Profile:

A graduate of the University of Dundee, Simon joined James Barr in March 2005. He has considerable experience in land-use planning matters from both local government and private practice. Simon started his career with East Sussex County Council where he managed a planning application caseload relating to waste and mineral development proposals and was actively involved in production of both the Council’s Minerals and Waste Local Plans. Following this, he spent a year in the Investment Department of Knight Frank in Paris. He returned to Scotland in 2002 as a Principal Planner with Jacobs Babtie where he project managed a number of planning schemes of varying sizes throughout Scotland including public local inquiries, research projects, spatial planning studies, planning applications and appeals. He has particular experience of work relating to Environmental Impact Assessments including Screening and Scoping exercises as well as site selection and appraisal work, policy formulation, research and consultation exercises. Simon has gained specialist knowledge in mixed use schemes, housing, waste management, renewable energy and mineral extraction proposals.
